Building Board Capacity for Inclusive Leadership and Organizational Excellence

Session Information:
This interactive workshop is for nonprofit board members and leaders who want to lead more inclusively and work better across cultures and environments. Through group discussions and activities, participants will build practical skills in empathy, inclusion, access, and collaboration. Attendees will leave with tools to improve teamwork and communication in diverse settings.
By Attending, Participants Will Have a Deeper Understanding of Key Skills, Including:
- Cultural empathy: Seeing situations from different cultural viewpoints without judgement
- Adaptability: Adjusting how you act or communicate based on cultural context
- Curiosity: Being open to learning from others and embracing differences
- Effective communication: Resolving conflict and building trust across cultures
- Relationship building: Working respectfully and collaboratively, even when misunderstandings happen
By the end of the workshop, participants will identify clear steps to build awareness, create a more inclusive organizational culture, and help their boards connect more effectively with diverse communities.

About the Facilitators:
Laurice Snyder - Human-Centered Leadership Consultant & Birth Doula, Rooted Wings, LLC
Laurice Snyder (she/hers) has been passionate about leading capacity building efforts that transform organizations and communities into environments where every individual has a sense of belonging for who they are and not marginalized for who they are not. Laurice’s personal journey fighting for basic survival through poverty, hunger, homelessness due to domestic violence and the quandary of racial identity led to her committing her entire career towards creating better outcomes for the next generation.
Professionally she has held several administrative leadership positions both in K-12 and higher education institutions including District Coordinator for Equity, Diversity Relations Manager, Compliance Officer, and Title IX Coordinator. Dedicated to being a catalyst for positive change in the community, Laurice proudly co-founded The Humanity Project: Telling the untold story which is the first-ever community conversation in Fond du Lac, WI focused on exposing the histories of people of color in the United States as well as Courageous Conversations at the Dinner Table with Law Enforcement with the Fond du Lac Police Department. She also recently added birth doula and business owner to her portfolio of experiences.
Laurice holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and Spanish, with an emphasis in social work from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master's degree in Cultural Foundations in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Additionally, she is a NIUSI-Leadscape Certified Culturally Responsive Cognitive Coach, Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®), and completed the Equity Alliance Leadership for Equity Certification. She also serves on several community leadership boards including the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girls on the Run, Back to School FDL, and the Police and Fire Commission.
Kim Walters - Cultural Engagement Specialist and Owner of Yes... And.
Kim Walters (she/hers) has been involved in education and consulting for over 20 years, working at the intersection of learning, leadership, and belonging. Her career has spanned middle-school literacy instruction, K–12 instructional coaching, and most recently, serving as Director of the Center 4All at CESA 6, where she led system-wide efforts to build inclusive, equity-centered educational environments.
After getting her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from Cardinal Stritch University, Kim went on to become a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®), has completed the certificate program for the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory® (ICS®), and is a Certified Facilitator of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) assessments. She also holds a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from e-Cornell, as well as a certificate in Innovative Teacher Leadership and Instructional Coaching from Viterbo University.
As a lifelong learner, Kim brings humility, empathy, and deep curiosity to every space she enters. She is determined to make the world a better place for all—because when we know better, we get to do better.

$20 within NPLI's service area - Organizations located in and primarily serving Outagamie, Calumet, Shawano, Waupaca Counties and Neenah/Menasha area of Winnebago.
$35 outside of NPLI's service area.
The Nonprofit Leadership Initiative (NPLI) is a program within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region and therefore serves the same geographic area. Our service region includes Calumet, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca Counties, and the Neenah/Menasha area of Winnebago County.
If your nonprofit’s IRS mailing address is outside this service area, a higher participant fee applies. Additionally, acceptance is based on space availability, with priority given to nonprofits within our region.
However, if your organization has a physical location within our service area, you will be eligible for the standard in-region rate.
