Facilitator:
Michelle Weber, Chief Financial Officer of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region
Michelle brings decades of financial and accounting experience and advising dynamic nonprofit organizations to her role. In 2004, she was an intern with a small accounting firm whose owner was civic and
community minded. She worked there until joining Grant Thornton in 2005.
When being recruited out of Mount Mary University, Michelle said one determining factor would be the ability to work with nonprofits. At Grant Thornton, she joined their emerging nonprofit practice where she honed her skills in being a trusted tax and mission consultant to her nonprofit clients. At the firm, she rose through the ranks to eventually be named a partner in 2018. A Certified Public Accountant, Michelle is proud that many of her original clients were still her clients when she left the firm to join the Community Foundation.
While a manager at Grant Thornton, Michelle refined her skills as a leader, coach, and advocate for her team members. As a senior manager, she wrote for internal and external industry publications and spoke at conferences. She participated in and led subcommittees within their national industry leadership group. She greatly enjoyed her 20 years of working as a trusted advisor to more than 150 nonprofits.
